Financial Literacy
Adventures at Money ParkTM (6-8 years old)
Through a role play, games and hands-on activities, the children learn about the different forms of money, how to give change back, what spending means and how to spend wisely, what parents spend their money on, how to get money, what saving means and how to make a simple budget.
Topics include;
Where Does this Money Come From, How Much Have We Got?, Let's Go Shopping, The Wise Shopper, Time to Get a Job, What Banks Do with Money?, Let's Make More, Money!, Why Should We Save? Let's Plan Our Next Adventure, Let's Follow Our Money Map
We teach through play roles and stories because children usually remember better by “living” an experience than by learning abstract concepts. Children choose between different options and make decisions with money, like in real life. If they make a mistake, a financially unwise decision, it is of no real consequence but they will surely remember it. After each game, where they are guided but have to decide, we have a wrap-up session to analyse what they have done, why, compare with each other and if they could have acted differently. Theory is introduced by giving the adequate vocabulary (for instance, keeping money for later is saving) and explaining through graphs or more examples the basic mechanism of money. Little characters like the Credit Cat™ and Spencer the Smart Spender™ also contribute to make the course lively and fun. Each training package combines these 3 learning steps. Written material given at the end suggests further activities to do with your child to practice and reinforce his/her newly acquired skills.
