Creative Writing and Publication Workshop: Diary Tales
Elephant Community Press
Creative Writing and Publication Workshop: Diary Tales
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney has captured the imaginations of kids all over the world in the past couple of years, but life stories told through diaries—fictional and not—have had a long history. In this workshop, students will look at examples from other diary stories, and discuss how writers use diary entries to give insight into their characters and show critical events in the main character’s life to form a story. Through writing exercises, group activities, and individual writing, students learn about the genre of diary stories and develop their own character to feature in a diary tale. Students who complete the workshop successfully will have their final stories compiled and published in a professionally bound volume!
The cost of publishing your child's book will be $50 and charged at the end of the course. The fee is paid directly to the instructor.

Creative Writing and Publication Workshop: Survivor
The perils of being shipwrecked on a deserted island or surviving in the midst of an unfamiliar forest have been told in adventure stories ranging from Robinson Crusoe to Hatchet and My Side of the Mountain. We look at real and fictional stories of wilderness survival, and consider what it takes to write a convincing survival story. Over the course of this workshop, students cast their characters away to some forsaken place and then help to bring them home again. Revised and edited final stories will be compiled and published in a professionally bound volume.
The cost of publishing your child's book will be $50 and charged at the end of the course. The fee is paid directly to the instructor.
There will be a required reading for this workshop. Students have the option to borrow the book from the library, purchase it on their own or purchase it through a book order with Elephant Community Press at standard retail price. Creative Writing and Publication Workshop: Tall Tales
Elephant Community Press
“I caught a fish THIS big!” is a classic example of exaggeration, the heart of the tall tale. Common in American folklore, tall tales tell stories of heroes who are ‘larger than life’, who defy everyday challenges and solve problems in remarkable and often wildly funny ways. In this workshop, students study examples of classic and modern tall tales, and consider how to make these exaggerated tales remotely believable. Through a process of drafting, revising, peer editing and polishing, students will work towards publication of their own tall tale. Students who complete the workshop successfully will have their final stories compiled and published in a professionally bound volume!
The cost of publishing your child's book will be $50 and charged at the end of the course. The fee is paid directly to the instructor.

Creative Writing and Publication Workshop: Choose Your Own Adventure
Elephant Community Press
In this workshop, students will take an in-depth look at the classic Choose Your Own Adventure books and the Elephant Community Press publication, Your Quest for Adventure, written by students in Hong Kong. In this very specific genre of the adventure story, the reader takes the starring role and faces a series of decisions that determine how the adventure will progress. Students will not only enjoy reading these books, but also analyze how they’re written to produce a Choose Your Own Adventure story of their own. They will exercise logical reasoning skills as they plan out alternative scenarios and endings for their stories, as well as creativity in bringing the stories to life. Through a process of drafting, revising, peer editing and polishing, students will prepare their stories to be compiled and published in a professionally bound volume!
The cost of publishing your child's book will be $50 and charged at the end of the course. The fee is paid directly to the instructor.

Our curriculum is also based on "inquiry". Students gain "minds-on" experiences as they are encouraged to describe objects and events, ask questions, construct explanations and communicate their ideas to others. In this way, our learners can develop their understanding oof schinec by combining scientific knowledge with reasoning and thinking skills.

Wushu training empahsizes quickness, explosive power, natural and relax movement. The Wushu practitioner must combine flixibility with strength, speed with flawless techniques, and fierce intent with effortless execution.
As beginners, students of Wushu receive introductory training in most of the core styles, but they gain experience, they begin to concentrate on a small number of styles. Typically, a student will specialize in one style each of barehand, short weapon, and long weapon. It is important that maturing students undertake specializations, which match teir abiliities and personality, the choice is handed down by the instructor, whose judegemnt is guided by long experience, rather than the student, whose judgement may be colored by "what looks cool". |

| Faust International Youth Theatre Drama Workshops
Under the careful guidance of experienced leaders children will explore the wonderful world of theatre. Our weekly workshops introduce members to drama and different aspects of the performing world. Each term, groups look at a different theme based on the group's interests and the leader’s expertise. Themes could include: improvisation, live performance, theatre through the ages, mime and movement or masks and puppetry. Workshops are tailored to the needs of the children with schedules sent electronically to members outlining workshop dates and content. We invite children to join with or without drama experience. At the end of the term children will share their learning with parents at the ECA Showcase. Please note, children must attend the audition to be considered for the Faust's annual Faust Festival, children in this course are not guaranteed a place. |
